Wolfpack come back from Christmas break with a 16-10 win over CCOP #2

PLEASANTON -- The Wolfpack hadn’t played a game for three weeks, but you wouldn’t have known it watching this game. They played their typically tough defense and made a relatively high percentage of their shots. Even though the CCOP team had the single best individual basketball player the Wolfpack had seen all year, the tough defense helped the Wolfpack come away with a 16-10 victory, despite that one player scoring all 10 points for her team.

Nikki once again started the scoring with one of her many steals and finished it up with a nice basket. About a minute later, Jillian intercepted a pass and brought the ball down and banked one in from the right side. Less than a minute later, Jillian intercepted an incoming pass and took the shot from the left side for her second basket of the game. In the first minute of the 2nd three minute quarter, Nikki was inbounding the ball, looked left then threw right to a wide open Hailey Meyer, who drained a 10 footer from the left side of the basket. Still in the first half, Tess Molinar cleaned up a miss by both Jillian Weber and Nikki for her first basket of the game. The CCOP star player made three baskets and two free throws in the first half, so the Wolfpack went into halftime with a 10-8 lead.

The second half was marked by more tough defense by the Wolfpack, especially the gutty play of Amanda Allman. Late in the third quarter, Jillian Weber got the ball about 18 feet from the basket and her coach yelled “Shoot it!”, which is something you usually don’t need to tell Jillian. Jillian obliged by stepping up and making a clean 17 footer from the right side for her 6th point of the game. Less than a minute later, Nikki came up with another of her steals and brought it all the way down and scored for her 4th point of the game. After the CCOP star made another shot to bring the game within 14-10, Tess Molinar stole the ball and outran the CCOP tired defenders and scored her 4th point to put the game out of reach. The Wolfpack defense was able to hold off the efforts of the CCOP star, who obviously was not used to losing, and held on for the 16-10 win.
