Huskies Beat Up On The Velocity 4-1

SAN RAMON -- In a match up of two ailing teams, the undefeated in regular season Velocity met the undefeated in regular season Huskies. Within the first minute, the Huskies brought the ball into scoring position and Colleen Tolan’s shot was stopped by the Velocity goalie. The Huskies kept the pressure on and Jeanette Sarkany started the scoring for the Huskies after stealing a goal kick and weaving through some Velocity defenders before nailing a shot in the left hand side of the net.

According to the Velocity head coach, Emily Glaser took seven shots on goal in the first half. The sixth shot was the only one that found the back of the net, though, giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead. The Huskies outshot the Velocity by at least 10 shots in the first half. One of the more memorable ones was a nice left-footed one by Korah Rose (after a nice pass from Jeanette) which was stopped by a nice effort by the Velocity goalie.

The second half started a little sloppy and the Huskies defense had a total breakdown which allowed the Velocity to take an uncontested shot which made the score 2-1 even though the Huskies had been dominating the entire game. In order to shore up the defense, Erin Cantoni was called on to become the center fullback and she definitely did her job. From that point on the Velocity got no more clear looks at the goal.

The second half was definitely dominated by the Huskies and the most dominating Husky was absolutely Amanda Fornataro. Amanda played center midfielder most of the second half and she seemingly was everywhere on the field. In an impressive display of stamina, Amanda time and time again was the first on the ball when there was a loose ball up for grabs. Even if she hadn’t scored, Amanda was going to be the star of the game. But Amanda did end up scoring twice, both fantastic shots from outside the 18, which helped provide the much needed insurance goals. With Amanda’s two goals, the Huskies finished off the Velocity by a score of 4-1.

Yet another dominating performance over a San Ramon team, Huskies. Good job. Next week’s game against the Pride will be the big one. If the Huskies can win that one, they are almost guaranteed a post season spot.
