Huskies Shake Up The Earthquakes 2-1

DANVILLE -- The third and final game of the Saddleback Tournament for the Huskies pitted the Huskies against the Mustang Earthquakes. The Huskies was the 4th ranked team in their pool and the Earthquakes was the 2nd ranked team in their pool. After only one minute in the game, it was obvious that these rankings weren’t going to mean anything. Emily continued where she left off against the Butterfly Kisses and outran the Earthquakes overmatched right fullback and blasted in a beautiful shot. Unfortunately, it happened so early in the game, the videographer hadn’t set up the camera yet, so Emily had yet another of her goals go unrecorded.

To the Earthquakes’ credit, they moved the slow right fullback out of that position because it was quickly obvious that Emily would have her way with that side of the defense if they didn’t make an adjustment. The Huskies kept up the pressure and played a nice half with only one substitute. Jeanette Sarkany added to the lead when she took the ball up the right sideline and fought through three defenders and passed over to the left side of the field, but then she went and hung out in front of the goal. The ball made it back to the front of the goal and Jeanette did a fantastic job of trapping the ball with her right leg and while the ball was up in the air, she used her left foot to knock it past the goalie. It was a pretty shot that you need to see on our website.

Unfortunately, in the last few seconds, the Earthquakes took advantage of Emily Glaser being thrown into left fullback, where she obviously is not very comfortable playing, and managed to get a shot past the first half goalie, Caitlin Weber, to make the game closer at 2-1.

Elizabeth Castaneda came in to play goalie for the second half and she made a few good stops to help the Huskies hold on for the win. With Caitlin Weber out due to a right quadriceps injury, the 11 girls on the Huskies had to play the entire second half without any rest. It was a hard fought game and it was very impressive that the Huskies were able to last through the half without allowing the Earthquakes to score.

Natali Feyzbakhsh had an outstanding game as the sweeper and played a huge role in keeping the Earthquakes from scoring, especially in the second half when everyone was starting to get fatigued.

Nice job girls, way to play hard all the way to the end. We’re all proud of you!
