Earthquakes shake up the Pirates, 8-1

SAN RAMON -- The Earthquakes came out to play this evening, especially Alicia Seronio. In the first half, Alicia started to get her confidence back that she had this last outdoor season and did a great job of controlling the ball and finding a way of getting it past the goalie. In just the first half alone, Alicia scored four goals and could have had more if coach Jim hadn’t removed her from the front lines in an act of mercy.

Kate Boyle had her first goal of the indoor season. From the right hand side, Kate went to pass the ball across the middle and the pass ended up careening off a defender right past the Pirate goalie.

Brittany Jimena played goalie for the first time this season in the first half and kept the Pirates from scoring for the entire 20 minutes. Alicia Seronio played goalie for the first time in probably three or four seasons and only one shot made it past her during the entire second half.

Jillian Weber predominantly played the stopper position, but still managed to get three more goals under her belt, one impressive one from near mid field with a shot that went over the outstretched arms of the goalie.

With the win, the Earthquakes assured themselves of a playoff spot in two weeks. The Earthquakes will be taking on the Strikers in the playoffs on Monday, March 30 @ 6:20pm. If they manage to get by the top seeded Strikers, the championship game would be on Tuesday, March 31 @ 5:30pm.
