San Ramon Crush-ed by P-Town Strikers 8-2

SAN RAMON -- Well, any way you looked at this game, it was a tough one for the San Ramon Crush. The Pleasanton team handled the Crush in pretty much all aspects of this game. It was not for a lack of trying, though. The girls from San Ramon kept fighting the whole game.

The two bright spots of the game for the Crush was a nice goal by Emily Ball and Adrienne Lampo’s first goal of the year. The only problem with Adrienne’s goal is that it is going to be even harder to get her to play goalie now. Adrienne wanted to play out in the field the whole game, so Hannah Skrentny was stuck in goal for the entire game as Caitlin Weber was not around to help take over the goalie job.

San Ramon Crush handled by Rangers United in 5-1 loss

SAN RAMON -- Starting the game with only 6 players, the Crush seemed like it was playing uphill most of the game. Girls were thrown into the game as they arrived, but they never seemed to be in sync. The defenders starting the game played a little out of position and as a result the Rangers got three goals early on in the first half and that proved all they needed. From that point on the Crush played the Rangers very evenly and missed a number of scoring opportunities of their own. So, watching the last 30 minutes of the game, you would have been hard pressed to guess which team had a commanding lead.

Adrienne Lampo started in goal again this game, but again, she wanted to come out in the field. Hannah Skrentny volunteered to go back in goalie, but since Caitlin Weber was having a hard time moving due to hip issues, I played Caitlin in goalie starting the second half. About half way through the second half, I did move Hannah to goalie, who again did a great job, but the surprising thing was that Caitlin really wanted to go back in as a forward. Seeing how she could hardly move, it didn’t seem like a good idea, but since we were already getting beat handily, there’s was no risk of it hurting the team. As it turned out, once Caitlin was up in forward, she seemed to forget about her hip injury and played great. Caitlin scored the only goal for the team and had two other wide open shots that she just barely missed.

Although the final score was 5-1, the Crush girls all played hard and were good sports throughout, which is what I want to see. As long as the effort is there and they show good sportsmanship, I’ll never be upset by a loss.

Vidhi Sachdeva missed the game due to a CYO basketball championship game that was being played at the same time. Both Jeanina Farmer and Isabela Escalante were absent as well due to prior commitments.
