San Ramon Crush worn down by the Pumas, 7-2

SAN RAMON -- With only seven girls tonight, the San Ramon Crush played tough, but just didn’t have the manpower to keep up with the Pumas. All seven girls played the entire game since there were no extras and that definitely took its toll on the Crush. Throughout the first half, the Crush had numerous chances at goals but couldn’t quite finish the play.

Caitlin Weber started the scoring for the Crush in the first half with a goal, which tied the game up at 1-1. For much of the first half, the Crush played the Pumas very evenly. Adrienne Lampo had first half goalie duties and managed to knock down some tough shots by the Pumas.

Caitlin Weber started the second half as goalie under protest. Somehow, Caitlin played goalie for almost ten minutes with most of it with her arms crossed and she refused to use her hands to stop the ball, but she didn’t allow a single goal. After ten minutes, Hannah Skrentny asked to play goalie. Under a minute later, a shot came blasting from half court that went right over her outstretched arms. You could kind of tell Hannah was thinking “I can’t believe I asked to do this”.

Adrienne Lampo got to play forward for much of the second half and she managed to score her second goal of the season.

One of the highlights was when Emily Ball ran up and stole the ball away from one of the Puma’s big hitters that was winding up for a big scoring opportunity. When she kicked through the ball, she totally whiffed because the ball was no longer there.

By the end of the game, all the Crush girls were red faced, sweaty and had nothing left to give. I’m sure they all slept well this Friday night. Good effort girls.
